\title{The \textit{MFB Oldstyle} Font Family\\\large Version 2.0}

\maketitle

\section{Description}

\textit{MFB Oldstyle} is a serif font family designed for body text. This typeface design was originally created by Morris Fuller Benton and released by American Type Founders in 1909 as \textit{Century Oldstyle}.

\section{Features}

The font family includes regular, \textit{italic}, \textbf{bold} and \textbf{\textit{bold italic}} fonts. All the fonts include superior and inferior figures, accessible both through OpenType features and the provided \texttt{mfb-oldstyle} \hologo{LaTeX} package. All the fonts in the family have small capitals, a choice of lining or old-style figures, as well as superior and inferior figures. For a view of character coverage, see the included character map PDF.

\section{Usage with OpenType-capable \hologo{TeX} engines}

When using an OpenType-capable engine, OpenType verisons of the fonts are used by default when invoking \texttt{mfb-oldstyle}. These fonts have better feature support (e.g., more ligatures) and so are preferable to the Type 1 versions. Alternatively, the font family \textit{MFB Oldstyle} can be selected using \texttt{fontspec}.

\section{Package invocation and options}

To use \textit{MFB Oldstyle}, simply add the package to your preamble. To allow for the use of different features, various package options are available. (If you're using \texttt{fontspec}, you can access these features through that package's standard options; see its documentation.)

\begin{verbatim}
\usepackage{mfb-oldstyle}
\end{verbatim}

\noindent\begin{tabular}{@{} ll @{}}
\toprule
Option & Feature \\
\midrule
\texttt{lining} or \texttt{lf} & Use lining figures (default)\\
\texttt{oldstyle} or \texttt{osf} & Use old-style figures\\
\texttt{tabular} & Use tabular figures (default)\\
\texttt{proportional} & Use proportional figures\\
\texttt{superiors=}\ldots  & Use superior figures: \texttt{none} (default), \texttt{all} or \texttt{footnote}\\
\texttt{dlig} & Use OpenType discretionary ligatures ({\addfontfeatures{Ligatures=Discretionary} ct, st})\\
\texttt{type1} & Force use of Type 1 fonts\\
\bottomrule
\end{tabular}
\vspace{0.2in}

Superior figures can be accessed on a one-off basis using the text command \texttt{textsu}, and inferior figures can be accessed using the text command \texttt{textin}.

\section{Copying}

The \textit{MFB Oldstyle} fonts have been placed in the public domain and can be used without restriction. For a detailed copyright waiver with explicit fallback provisions, see \texttt{COPYING}.
